This article attempts to dispels some popular misconceptions relating to mediation. The misconceptions examined are that mediation is suitable for every dispute, that lawyers don't like mediation because they think their fee will be smaller, that mediation will work at any time, that only compulsory mediation works, that mediation settlements ignore the law, that mediation meetings become shouting matches, that mediation is only useful in straightforward cases, and that mediation deprives the client of his day in court.
