Private investors are now the fourth most significant group of property buyers in the UK, ahead of banks and owner-occupiers. The value of acquisitions by private investors has doubled in four years, to £5.10bn in 2005, whilst disposal activity increased by nearly 150% in 2005 compared with 2004. Foreign investment in the UK property market continues to increase, with the Irish still the most active group, although US investors have overtaken the Germans to claim second place.
