Digital Project, an integrated building information modelling (BIM) system, can be accessed and modified by all project consultants and enables potential structure and service problems to be dealt with at an early stage; it also has the ability to generate significant cost savings. The software has been used on a number of major projects, including Heathrow Terminal 5. Take-up of BIM has however generally been slow in the construction sector, principally because the industry is reluctant to take a holistic view, and also because of concerns about the cost of the technology.
