Recent research has revealed that whilst logistics plays a central role in ensuring that construction projects are delivered efficiently, the introduction of leaner processes in parts of the supply chain aimed at improving performance at the logistics level can have a negative impact, in that they are production rather than customer-focused. Investment in site preliminaries, such as site office set-up and storage facilities, and supportive management practices which include establishing a logistics plan, scheduling material deliveries and developing supply chain arrangements, are vital for successful logistics management.
