This article looks at the grading of timber and the problems associated with the specification of grades for timbers used in the building industry, which are often given confusing and contradictory names. Also describes the effect of drying timber which has lead to recent litigation on claims for damages. Concludes that more precise specification and scientific checking is required for timber to avoid further problems.
