Occupiers are beginning to recognise the benefits of using outsource facilities management companies. They are seen as being beneficiary in not only cutting costs, but also as a strategic tool in deciding how much space they need, and where. This includes being part of an advanced taskforce involved in quizzing agents about how buildings work, rather than allowing real estate managers to make decisions based on rent. Some critics believe that flexible long-term occupancy contracts are the way forward because they allow the occupier to retain control of the property, while surplus space can be turned into an asset by letting it out.
