Reports on LPS 2020, a new certification standard for manufacturers of innovative residential building systems. It has been developed by BRE, and is supported by the Association of British Insurers and the Council of Mortgage Lenders; it covers all innovative systems regardless of type, material or form of construction, and deals with such performance characteristics as durability, resilience and ease of repair. It is hoped that LPS 2020 will stimulate the growth of the market in innovative building systems, which has been hampered by the fact that many designs are unproven, and therefore not acceptable to insurers or mortgage lenders.
