Explains how moves by HM Revenue and Customs to crackdown on bogus self-employment may lead to a substantial reduction in the number of Bulgarian and Romanian workers in the UK construction industry. As immigrant workers have filled many of the additional construction jobs created in the last 5 years, and helped contain wage costs, this could have serious implications for such major projects as the 2012 Olympics and Thames Gateway.
