New research suggests that there is a widespread lack of knowledge in the construction industry both about the physical consequences of Hand-Arm Vibration and of the Control of Vibration at Work regulations 2005. This article examines the reasons behind this lack of awareness, and what can be done to rectify the situation. A second article, "Why steel is a safe bet", looks at the safety systems in the constructional steelwork sector which have helped make it one of the safest in the industry.
