In the light of the recent advice issued by the Government on control of methane from landfill sites , this article looks at problems which may be encountered when developing methane gas sites. Considers such issues as the size of the site, what sites may have been filled with, the need for thorough site investigation and why they produce methane. Also describes the experiences of London Scientific Services in dealing with problem areas.
