The Health and Safety Commission (HSC) is to recommend approval of the draft Control of Asbestos Regulations which will strengthen worker protection by reducing exposure limits and by introducing detailed mandatory training for work with asbestos. Work with textured decorative coatings containing asbestos will, however, be removed from the licensing regime on the basis that levels of exposure are low. The HSC hopes to have the new regulations in place by the end of 2006.
