In this paper, presented at the Institute of Quarrying`s symposium on " Aggregates for the South-East" held last year, the authors` argue that as the South-East of England is significantly different from other areas of the country with regards to size, population and wealth, the approach to planning for mineral provision should also be different. The article identifies current minerals strategy for the South-East being developed through a collaborative approach operated by Mineral Planning Authorities and industry, and attempts to evaluate its effectiveness.
