Cement cleans up its act - 2006 - Contract Journal 434(6588) 16 August 2006, 24-25(2) .
The cement industry has a poor environmental record, producing between 5-10% of global carbon emissions. This article looks at the way UK cement producers are now using more environmentally friendly fuels, often based on waste products, and also developing alternative cement products, especially blended cements containing less clinker. C-Fix, a carbon-rich thermoplastic binder, made of waste materials from the oil distilling process, is poised to break into the UK market, having already been used on a number of projects in Europe.
