This paper investigates the type of maintenance works undertaken to properties in the registered social landlord sector and considers the potential for the application of lean thinking or waste minimisation to the repair and refurbishment of those properties left vacant after a tenant departs. It concludes that properties located on estates built after 1980 are most likely to benefit from lean principles.
