A number of changes in listed building control have been introduced with the Housing and Planning Act 1986 . This article looks at the changes in law with regard to free-standing objects within the curtilage of a listed building and the "ecclesiastical exemption". Describes the amendments in some detail before discussing the effects they may have and the drawbacks which may occur. Concludes with an examination of the scope of the ecclesiastical exemption with regard to non-Christian temples .
