There are currently 250 000 registered contractors and over 2m subcontractors in HMRC's CIS scheme. Describes the Government Gateway, the electronic in/out checkpoint that enables construction customers' IT systems to achieve connectivity with government software. Outlines why the CIS had to be reformed and looks at the software challenge. Table lists Business Application Software Developers Association members who will be CIS ready by the 2007 deadline.
