Reports that building, mechanical and electrical costs continue to rise above inflation, as measured by the Consumer Prices Index. Steel and timber prices have recorded the sharpest increases, due to European demand, and the summer wage award saw an increase in basic rates of just 3.5%, the lowest for a number of years.
