Discusses the construction industry's reaction to government's new "Code for sustainable homes" (L135998). Argues that the code does not provide a clear definition of a zero-carbon home, and is therefore likely to cause confusion. Also suggests that too much emphasis is placed on new build homes with not enough attention given to the existing housing stock. Calls for clarification on whether a zero-carbon rating should be given on a house by house basis or from community energy sources. Attempts to define a zero-carbon rated home and to explain the star rating system.
