Dispute avoidance - 2007 - Contract Journal 437(6611) 7 February 2007, 22(1) .

Reviews some of the methods of dispute avoidance used to reduce conflict on construction projects. Notes that there are two main types of dispute avoidance: management methods aimed at reducing risk, and non-escalation mechanisms. In particular, examines structured negotiation, contractual third party intervention, and dispute boards. Concludes that the growing use of dispute avoidance techniques, as revealed by a recent study by Grant Thornton, shows that the construction industry is aware of the advantages of preventing disputes from escalating.
