With pressure on the construction industry to adapt to sustainable practices, considers whether ecological building products and materials can compete with the traditional construction methods. Illustrates how some natural products have got advantages over their traditional counterparts, for example, woodfibre can achieve good acoustic and thermal performance when compared with polystyrene. However, the price premium that ecological products carry still deters many contractors. Concludes that further legislation and incentives are required if ecological building products are to achieve mainstream acceptance.
