In 2006, there were around 183 140 new house building starts in England, up over 3% on 2005, and 160 230 completions, up around 1/2% on 2005. Compared with 2001, starts and completions in 2006 were up by around 24%. In the quarter to December 2006, housing starts in England were up 11% on the same period in 2005. However, completions were down by 11%.
