The latest Experian Business Strategies' "Focus survey of construction activity" reveals a considerable slowdown in construction activity during December 2006, with the overall activity index falling by nine points. The other major industry indicators also declined, although all remained above 50. Civil engineering suffered the biggest downturn, with the activity index falling by 29 points to 52. However, steady growth is predicted over the first quarter of 2007, based on the current strength of order levels and tender enquiries.
