Looks at measures contractors are taking to meet government's sustainability targets. Kier has cut back on materials waste and its use of water and electricity during 2006, is also operating car-sharing schemes, and has recently gained ISO14001 certification. Carillion has also been pursuing the joint objectives of environmental and commercial efficiency for several years. Argues that responding to climate change can involve simple measures, such as using recycled materials, having goods delivered without packaging, manufacturing more through factories, and segregating waste on site.
