Reports on the project to build Colchester's new art gallery, which will house Firstsite. Various technical challenges have arisen during the project, including the fact that the site is a scheduled ancient monument containing Roman ruins. The curved roof, unique glass door and gold cladding have also added to the complex nature of the project. The art gallery is due to open in April 2008. Notes the total cost as £16.5m and the construction cost as £12.6m.
