New apprenticeship scheme drives up work placements [electronic resource]

Announces the roll out of the Programme Led Apprenticeships (PLA) scheme, which aims to provide 3 000 construction apprentice placements by 2008. The PLA provides an alternative structure to employers and enables young people to initially spend two years on a construction based college course. The PLA should help to address the lack of suitable work placements for construction trainees and therefore encourage skilled industry growth.
