Guidance on surveying, evaluating and assessing the impact of roads on historic landscapes has been published by the Highways Agency and English Heritage. "Assessing the effect of road schemes on historic landscape character" will ensure that greater effort is taken in preparing environmental assessments for new road schemes. This may include design measures to reduce changes caused by noise, land take, visual intrusion and vibration or incorporating new landscaping and planting into the road scheme.
