Presents a study which focuses on provision of two- or three-storey family accommodation in suburban areas. This is a mainstream area of housing provision. Argues that such housing can be achieved among higher population densities than is presently the norm. This has implications for planning policy. It may facilitate more sustainable development, encouraging local transport planning and reducing car dependence. This in turn may promote better living environments and more integrated communities.
