Searches in the spotlight - 2007 - Solicitors' Journal Guide to Legal Services 2007 xlv-xlvi (2) .

Explores the development of the electronic property search market. Problems have been highlighted during HIP trials. Local authority searches are seen as restrictive and costly. They are seen as time consuming, a criticism also levelled at personal search firms. Electronic searches via the National Land Information Service (NLIS) are faster. HIP providers will soon be able to use this service. Additionally, most local authorities are planning electronic access. Local authorities will need to make good use of the transition period to make the necessary changes.
