Describes the new voluntary Code for Leasing Business Premises, which aims to improve cooperation and partnership between commercial landlords and tenants. It deals with rent reviews, break clauses, alterations, disposals, repairs, service charges, insurance and consents. It aims to increase trust between landlords and tenants. Transactions should complete faster with less conflict, and trading too should be faster. It also offers greater flexibility and reduced bureaucracy. Omissions from leases should be reduced, as the model heads of terms in the Code aims to provide lawyers with a greater level of instruction.
