Therefore there is an increased risk of subsidence due to old mine workings. Archival Mine Reports and drilling investigations are relatively inexpensive precautions to take. Mundic concrete blocks, made from mine wastes and used for construction before 1950, are common in Cornwall and Devon. They are known to contain materials which deteriorate. Also due to mining, there is an increased incidence of contaminated land in the area.
