Tenant deposits now safer [electronic resource]

Reports on the effects of the Tenancy Deposit Protection (TDP) schemes which were introduced on 6 April this year. Landlords and agents are now obliged to sign up with one of the three government-backed schemes when taking deposits for new shorthold assured tenancies. Figures show that in the first six months almost 500 000 deposits have been protected, amounting to some £450m. The average deposit per tenancy is £889.
