Examines the government's plans for meeting the housing needs of the elderly. There is a shortage of suitable accommodation, and to date policies have not been adequately followed through. A new policy is promised, but concerns are that this will be inadequate or remain unimplemented. This is despite significant investment through The Housing Corporation. Argues that supply policies are now at a critical juncture. A number of elderly people would prefer to live in city centres, and developers are only creating suitable housing at the high end of the market. Outlines relevant design issues.
