Reports on a survey by Heritable Bank into the effects of licensing requirements for Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs). Highlights inconsistencies in local authority licensing requirements; that licensing arrangements are deterring landlords from investing in this sector; and that 23% of landlords are unaware of the HMO licensing scheme. Calls for an update of the entire scheme. The survey was across 60 local authorities. Also notes that councils' licence fees vary between 1, 3 and 5 year deals; that geographical factors do not affect the licence fee cost; and that the most complex licence arrangements are found in Wandsworth.
