Governance in private-public spaces
Imrie, Rob
Governance in private-public spaces - 2007 - Town & Country Planning 76(12) December 2007, 448-450(3) .
Considers the RICS report "The privatisation of public space" (L132951) and its claim that there is a growing privatisation of the public realm. Reports initial findings of a new study which examines differences between the approach of the UK and Japan toward the maintenance of privatised public spaces. Looks specifically at the Canary Wharf development in London and Minato Mirai 21 in Japan. The former is constructed, owned and managed by one company, while the latter has a devolved governance structure involving partnerships and a fragmented pattern of land ownership.
