Reports that Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are to be required for rented properties from January 2009. Warns that landlords and agents need to be aware of the regulations and of the increased pressure to make their properties more energy efficient. Legislation stipulates a £200 fine for lack of compliance. Ratings should allow tenants to make more informed rental choices. Covers practical issues surrounding the energy inspection, the route to becoming a Domestic Energy Assessor and insurance.
