Private rented sector to be focus of independent review [electronic resource]

Reports that the Minister for Housing and Planning is commissioning an independent review into the private rented housing sector. It will examine the problems faced by tenants and landlords, and report upon aspects of the systems in place which operate successfully. It will examine how an increase in both buy to let accommodation and students tenants has impacted the sector, examining the effects of social change on future demand. The report follows a 2007 Citizens Advice Bureau report in which 1 in 5 tenants expressed dissatisfaction with landlord repairs and noted landlord problems with unpaid rent and anti-social behaviour.
