Balfour Beatty topped the new work winners league table for 2007, for the third year in a row, with Laing O'Rourke in second place and HBG Construction in third. Total new orders for 2007 reached £32.7bn, nearly £6bn more than the 2006 total of £26.8bn. The strong growth in 2007 was driven by private commercial orders which accounted for 35% of all new orders in 2007.
