Reports on flood prevention measures which have been taken since the flooding of summer 2006. Raises issues which need closer attention. Examines the use of Planning Policy Statement 25 which has seen planners referring objections to their government office in an attempt to concentrate attention on flood risks. The Environment Agency has reported some reluctance to engage with these risks because of short term economic and social factors. Raises three priorities: a clear framework to deal with surface water drainage, greater engagement from public services with flood prevention, and a long-term investment strategy for mitigating the effects of climate change.
