Unacceptable performance by refurbishment sector of the construction industry [electronic resource]

Recent HSE spot checks of refurbishment sites across Great Britain reveal that over one in three of the visited sites operates below acceptable safety standards and puts the lives of workers at risk. Over 1 000 spot checks in February 2008 led to 395 enforcement notices, with work stopped on 30% of the sites. Over 50% of the enforcement action taken was against dangerous work at height.
