Questions whether piped waste heat from electricity generation is the most sustainable option for the UK. Instead of considering city-wide Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems and piped heat supplies, government has focused on small and micro CHP systems and ignored the potential of the large systems. Article illustrates the cost, security of supply and environmental advantages of city-wide CHP. Table shows the carbon dioxide footprints of different heating systems.
