Reviews changes in the private rented property sector. Finds that demand in the sector is high. The largest group are those who cannot access social housing and cannot afford to buy privately. Rents have remained affordable as supply has kept pace with demand, driven by buy-to-let landlords. This in turn has encouraged developers. Expresses concerns, based on an RICS figures, that investment activity may be reducing. However developers appear to be interested in building buy-to-let accommodation as well as purpose-built student accommodation. Concludes that the future of the London market depends to a large extent on its workforce.
