Finds that UK in 2007, affordability was 76.7% worse than in 1994, the base mark for this index. Shows trends in mortgage costs as a percentage of household income in regions around the UK. Finds affordability worsening in all areas. Shows affordability indices over the previous 14 years in areas around the UK. The North East remains the most affordable area of England, although it displayed a marked deterioration. The survey is based on DCLG figures for first time buyers and commissioned Family Expenditure Survey data for the incomes of working households.
