Article looks at planning law with respect to hazardous substances and argues that it is time to revisit the topic in the light of disasters such as the Stockline Plastics explosion in Glasgow and the petition by Eriden properties for a judicial review by Falkirk council for a hazardous substances consent to KemFine UK at Grangemouth. Also explores the advisory role of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the planning process and the restraints on their involvement.
