Reports on the results of SmartLIFE Housing Demonstration, a building project with the goal to demonstrate how the UK could deliver a large amount of affordable, sustainable and good quality houses, by using traditional and modern building techniques. Finds that: more efficient site processes could reduce building costs; modern methods of construction could be more cost effective than traditional building techniques; the partnership between the manufacturer and the contractor allowed success to the fastest and cheapest system used, that is the light gauge steel frame system; and that all systems had their advantages, depending on the project's requirements.
