Figures released by Sport England suggest that their initiative to protect playing fields is having a positive impact, with 97.5% of planning applications in 2006-07 which affected playing fields resulting in improved or protected sports provision, and with negotiation leading to better provision in over half the cases where Sport England had initially objected to an application.
