Notes current lack of underground gas storage facilities in the UK. Highlights a number of planning issues relating to their provision. These include locating buildings and plant to minimise visual intrusion, contolling vehicular activity and routes, controlling noise and light emissions, night-time drilling operations and disposal of waste materials. Concludes that underground gas storage facilities have an extremely low incident rate compared with other sectors of the energy supply industry.
