Discusses a European Commission proposal for a Directive on Alternative Investment Fund Managers (AIFM), which was presented on 29 April 2009. AIF includes Open-Ended Real Estate Funds, and the Directive will introduce a harmonised regulatory framework for AIFM in the EU. AIFs are defined as all funds that do not fall under the UCITS Directive on harmonised investment funds in the EU. The proposal will now be discussed by the European Parliament, who will take it up after the upcoming election and vacation period.
