Research by the Bell-Mallen partnership has concluded that the five largest UK REITs collectively destroyed £24.1bn of shareholder value over the last decade, far more than their £17bn combined stock market worth. The relative performance of the UK listed property sector has been awful - UK REITs delivered between 2006 and 2009 a total return of -26.3%, lagging all other main listed markets.
