The Halifax First Time Buyer Review which tracks housing affordability in 250 local authority districts reveals that in 2011 the number of towns affordable to first time buyers is at its highest since 2003. Notes North-South divide in affordabilty with North being 10 times more affordable. London is the only region with no areas available for first time buyers on average income. The number of first time buyers remains constrained by the difficulty in obtaining mortgages.
