Income needed to access the first rung of the property ladder in a rural location is £46 500 which is considerably more than in urban areas wherea comparable home can be bought for £32 750. The high cost of rural housing is a function of a number of fundamental factors including a shortage of supply combined with increasing demand with the rural population predicted to rise by 16% by 2028 compared to 9% in urban areas.
